Coming soon to your Microsoft 365 mailbox - the Briefing email from Cortana

Microsoft are repurposing Cortana, their AI assistant - in the next release a chat focused UI with support for keyboard and voice will arrive, along with features that help customers to keep on top of their schedule, and perform other tasks. Additional updates for Cortana will be announced in the coming months. In the meantime, the upcoming improved Cortana will recognise commands like “Let me know what’s next on my calendar”, and “add status report to my to-do list”. These features are part of the Windows 10 version 2004 update, which is currently being rolled out.

Cortana is also being intergrated with M365 work and school accounts, and one of the first features available is the Briefing email. This is a personalised brief in Outlook with important information on upcoming meetings and outstanding tasks, so you're prepared for the day ahead. If there is relevant content, people will receive the Briefing email at the beginning of each workday; at least one actionable insight must be detected for there to be a daily mail.

The email is only available to an end user; no administrator or manager can see another individual’s Briefing email. All data is stored inside the user’s mailbox. As the email is an M365 service, it is subject to the same rigorous security and data protection as all M365 services.

This feature is enabled by default, and is scheduled to begin rolling out early August and completing by the end of September. Recipients can unsubscribe from within the email message, and the service can be turned off at the tenancy level. Please contact us if you'd like further information, or would like the service disabled.
